Description:

While in residence at Western Front, Michèle Waquant developed En attendant la pluie (Waiting for the Rain), a video sculpture that explored vertical spaces through the subject of rain.

Four vertically stacked colour monitors alternated between still and moving images of Vancouver’s urban and forested landscapes—downtown skyscrapers, a drizzly alleyway lined with telephone poles, totem poles at the Museum of Anthropology, and ancient trees—juxtaposed with shots of a woman with a long braid gazing out a window at Western Front on a grey day. The studies were paired with voice-over narration by Alice Jeffrey recounting the Gitxsan origin story of the great flood.

Video documentation is available upon request.
