Description:

While in residence at Western Front, trumpeter Ellwood Epps and guitarist Vicky Mettler participated in a “marathon” concert in the Grand Luxe Hall alongside twenty-local improvisers including Brent Cross (guitar), Kenneth Schroeder (bass), Asuman Gencol (voice), Dan Potter (guitar), John Gross (tenor sax), Sina Ettehad (kamancheh), Aram Bajakian (guitar), Marina Hasselberg (cello), James Meger (bass), Mili Hong (drums), Nikki Carter (saxophone), François Houle (clarinet/electronics), Johanna Hauser (clarinet), Ellwood Epps (trumpet), Jeff Younger (guitar), Lan Tung (erhu/voice), Barbara Adler (spoken word), M Mike Brown (clarinets), Mike WT Allen (saxophones), Natasha Zrno (clarinet), Skye Brooks (drums), and Lisa Butel (voice/electronics). Performing back-to-back sets, the musicians played on affinities between musique actuelle and West Coast improvisation.

Presented as part of the series Trading Places: Un Échange in partnership with Coastal Jazz & Blues Society, Music on Main, New Orchestra Workshop (NOW) Society, and Suoni per il Popolo; with support from the Government of Canada and SOCAN Foundation.
