Exhibition

Description:

Event was a projected video that navigated a line between critique and celebration of clichéd sentimentality in popular film and video.

The work featured two actors playing out the evolution of a relationship from the discovery of new love to its demise in a two-minute loop. Instead of simply presenting itself as a speedy tale of two lovers, the video is more like an exercise in trying to realize that moment of becoming lost in a film.

Wight subtly subverted cliché cinematic signs in an attempt to elicit active consumption of the images. By designing the work with a cohesive and eventful narrative, it challenged critiques that favour the disruption of familiarity and legibility in order to overcome the doldrums of repetitive pop culture.

An exhibition opening took place on May 31, 2002.
