Description:

Sinophile Sinophobe is a single-channel video by Henry Tsang developed while in residence at Western Front. It features a series of recorded conversations in the Grand Luxe Hall, where Tsange and collaborators Lorraine Chan, Harvey Chiang, Donna Chan, Qiu Sha, and Gu Xiong, discuss sexuality and dating in China and Chinese-Canadian contexts. Structured with playful heart-shaped transitions, the work is divided into themed sections such as “Rice King,” “China Doll,” “Sex in China,” “Emasculation,” “Beauty and Desire,” and “Desire and Denial,” examining how stereotypes are projected, internalized, and challenged.

Video documentation is available upon request.
